During a conventional make ready, the objective is to build up the spots where the rule is not cutting until 100 percent cutting is achieved. On complex dies with a large quantity of rule, this process can mean hours of press downtime. National's patented Self Leveling rule is designed to minimize make ready by using the press to level the rule.
By utilizing two compression zones (one just under the cutting edge and one at the rule's bottom), Self Leveling Rules are designed to compress to the lowest point where the cutting occurs. The hardened edge remains undamaged during the leveling process, which lends to longer die life with less dust.
Self Leveling rules are available in a large variety of heights and bevels for both platen and steel to steel rotary applications.
